Halloween Pennants

Halloween pennant

I have been meaning to post something for months. As I logged in tonight, I realized that it has been exactly a year since my last post. I know a lot of my mental block has been the loss of my mother. While I can’t say I notice how her loss has affected me in my day-to-day life, I have noticed the change over the last year. Maybe login in tonight to post about finding Halloween Pennants (Celithemis eponina) with my kids is the turning point for my mental block. I am sure she would want me to talk about taking my kids on adventures.

While my wife and I often spend a lot of time with our children (aged 5, 6, and 9), we don’t get many chances to spend time with each kid individually. So from time to time, we make the point of finding something to do with each kid. One of their favorite things to do with me is take “Daddy Walks,” which is just wandering around the neighborhood and listening to them talk.

Even though the conversation with each kid was completely different, we walked on the same path, and I took my camera along with us. During each trip we found a bunch of Halloween Pennants (Celithemis eponina), which we always call “Tiger Dragonflies,” flying around. None of the other bugs and birds cooperated with getting their photo taken.

My kids seemed to love the adventure of hunting for these shots, but I think the true treasure is the time that we spent together. I don’t know if they will remember this exact time we when out, but I hope that they will fondly remember “Daddy Walks.”
