Hoover Fly on Bug Safari

We decided to go on a bug safari today. I couldn’t get a picture of everything we say, but I did get a few.

Fox Squirrel

Eastern Fox Squirrel

I know Fox Squirrels are not everyone’s favorite thing to have around the house, but I love them. While we also have Red Squirrels and Gray Squirrels running around there is something special about the big lazy Fox Squirrel.

Rabbit on the Run

Wild Rabbit Cover

On tonight’s walk we saw a few wild rabbits. Since we have two giant buns at home, the kids love to see wild rabbits on the run. It is hard to get close to them with the kids. They are not very sneaky.

Flemish Giants

I have posted about our Flemish Giants before. Our beautiful rabbits are still growing, and growing in our hearts. They are larger than our cats, and the four of them are becoming friends. Though each species seems to think the other is strange. Our kids are also becoming “experts” who actively advocate for their furry friends.

Bunny Run

This past January our family adopted two Flemish Giant Rabbits. While we have two old cats, these are the first “big” pets the kids have gotten. Since today was a nice day, we decided to take them outside for a little bunny run in the lawn. It is hard to tell, but they seemed to love being outside. Hopefully we will be able to take them out more often now the weather is nice.

Snakes on the Lawn!

On today’s walk the kids found a Garter snake. First, I was proud of the kids for seeing it on their own. Second, I was proud that they kept their distance while looking at it, while not reacting with fear. It is nice to know that they actually listen. We got a great view of this cool reptile. After we gave it a little room, it went from the lawn to the woods. The kids really wanted to follow, but they restrained themselves.

It’s Starting to Feel a lot Like Spring

The weather is starting to break, and it is starting to feel a lot like spring here in Michigan. Not only is it warming up, but the birds are coming back, and baby animals are starting to be born. We were lucky enough to see a few lambs this past week. It made a pretty big impression on the kids. So much so, that the boys were lambs for a day instead of dinosaurs.

Turkey Run

A few days ago I said in a post that the turkeys kept a respectful distance while we were walking. Today we went on a walk and the turkeys go up and close. This was exciting because they are one of my boys favorite birds. While this might sound silly if your only reference is the bird on your plate at Thanksgiving, in person they are amazing. They are large, and there feathers have iridescent blues, reds and yellows.

Going to the Farm and for a Walk

We are lucky enough to live minutes away from a 4,481 acres park that not only offers wooded trails to walk on, but also a little farm. Now that the weather has broken, we try to go there as often as we can. One day this week my daughter only had a half day at school, so we took the opportunity to pack as much adventure into the day as possible.
